Series background & context
The MacCoinnich Time Travels series blends Highland historical romance with modern life, tying the two together through a powerful Druid family. Each book follows a different couple, but they are all linked by the MacCoinnich clan’s fight against an ancient witch who refuses to stay buried.
The story begins when sixteenth century warrior Duncan MacCoinnich steps through a circle of stones and into a twenty first century Renaissance faire looking for a prophesied Druid virgin. In Binding Vows he finds Tara McAllister, a modern woman who thinks the handfasting they enact is just part of the show until she wakes up in a castle in medieval Scotland. Culture clashes, stubborn pride, and real danger from the witch Grainna force them into a partnership that feels a lot like a marriage long before either is ready to admit it.
Later books flip the setup. In Silent Vows, Duncan’s sister Myra is sent forward in time to hide from Grainna and ends up in contemporary California, where a wary cop named Todd cannot make sense of her strange clothes and stranger beliefs. Redeeming Vows sends Tara’s single mom sister Lizzy back in time to stand beside Finlay MacCoinnich, the one man who seems to both infuriate and understand her. Together they carry the larger arc of the war with Grainna and the cost of protecting the clan.
Highland Shifter and Highland Protector widen the world. Simon, once a boy from modern Los Angeles, has grown into a kilted warrior with a Druid gift and a foot in both eras, while Helen, who can find lost things, stumbles into his life and straight through time. In the final volume, modern woman Amber and near immortal protector Gavin Kincaid confront enemies who move between centuries, forcing the entire MacCoinnich family to decide what home and legacy will look like.
Across the series, readers can expect sword fights, spells, and plenty of humor as people from one era try to navigate the customs and clothes of another. The tone stays romantic and hopeful even when the stakes are high, and the heart of every book is the same: a couple learning to trust each other while fate drags them across time.
Because the characters and overarching conflict carry through from one novel to the next, the books are most satisfying in order, but each romance still lands with its own complete, happily ever after.
