Series background & context

The Most Likely To novels return to River Bend, a small town in rural Oregon where three teenage best friends were once labeled in their high school yearbook with tongue in cheek superlatives. Melanie Bartlett was voted Most Likely to Succeed, Zoe Brown Most Likely to Never Leave, and Jo Ward Most Likely to End Up in Jail. Years later, none of them are exactly where they expected to be.

Doing It Over brings Mel back to River Bend as a down on her luck single mom whose big city plans crashed and burned. Taking a room at Miss Gina’s eccentric bed and breakfast, she leans on Jo and Zoe while contractor Wyatt Gibson falls hard for both Mel and her cautious daughter. Beneath the cozy setup runs a thread of danger as someone targets the little girl, forcing the whole town to close ranks.

In Staying For Good, Zoe returns to the double wide trailer and troubled family she once fled, now a successful celebrity chef from Dallas. Facing her imprisoned father’s legacy, caring for her younger siblings, and reconnecting with high school sweetheart Luke push her to decide what kind of life she wants and where home really is. Old hurts resurface, but so do the reasons she loved River Bend in the first place.

Making It Right centers on Jo, the former wild child who has inherited her late father’s sheriff’s badge. On the surface she is all sharp edges and competence, but privately she questions whether she deserves the job or a future beyond River Bend. Advanced law enforcement training, a complicated attraction to federal agent Gill Clausen, and a series of escalating threats tie Jo’s personal journey to a twisty small town mystery.

Taken together, the trilogy feels like one long story about friendship, forgiveness, and the way a hometown can both wound and heal. The romances deliver satisfying heat and heart, but the unshakable bond between Mel, Zoe, and Jo is the spine of the series and connects it to later books like First Wives and Richter.
