For smart heroines and a warmer Regency feel: A Touch of Silver → A Hint of Starlight → A Trace of Roses
For her newer historical family saga: The Only Honest Man in London → An Unusual Courtship → The Talk Of The Town
For paranormal romance: Sunfire → Red Alert → Lightning Unbound
Author bio
Lynne Connolly was born in Leicester, England, and some of her earliest memories come from a family cobbler's shop, where she lived with her parents and sister. It was the kind of old house that seems to gather stories. Later she learned it had a darker past, and that it stood on the site of a Roman cemetery, which explains a lot about why the paranormal never felt very far away.
That mix of the everyday and the uncanny still feels central to her work.
When the family home was bought to make way for a road, they moved to a newer house in the country. Her father worked for the Post Office, and her mother was a sample machinist who made garment prototypes for designers. Connolly has said that meant she was a very well dressed child, which is such a practical detail, and a very good one.
She has also spoken about her mother's Romany family background and about learning to read Tarot cards when she was young. That lifelong curiosity about hidden things, old beliefs, and what sits just outside plain explanation shows up again and again in her books. Even when she is writing straight historical romance, there is often a feeling that secrets matter, that the past is alive, and that love is never the only force moving the story.
History grabbed her early. She fell for the eighteenth century when she was nine, and she never really fell out of love with it. That long fascination helps explain why so many of her best known books are set in Georgian England, a period she clearly enjoys for its danger, glamour, rules, and loopholes.
Before publication, she worked in marketing and wrote seriously for years. She has said that a turn in her health pushed her to think about sending her work out, and her first published book appeared in 2002. Since then she has built a large backlist across historical, paranormal, and contemporary romance, sometimes using the name L.M. Connolly for the paranormal and contemporary side of her work.
If you want a good feel for her historical fiction, Yorkshire and the wider Richard and Rose series are a strong place to look. Those books mix romance with mystery and Georgian adventure, and readers who like couples who stay together and face the world side by side tend to enjoy them. Rogue in Red Velvet and the Emperors of London books lean harder into family intrigue, political danger, and heat.
Then there are books like A Touch of Silver, which show another side of her historical writing, women with work, talent, and minds of their own, set against the pressures of rank and respectability. On the paranormal side, Sunfire brings together shape shifters and a rock band, while Red Alert and the STORM books push further into romantic suspense and supernatural danger.
What ties the whole body of work together is pretty simple. Connolly likes love stories, but she also likes secrets, risk, and capable people under pressure. Her couples do not just fall for each other. They usually have to solve something, survive something, or admit something first.
She lives in the UK with her family, and over the years she has written with the kind of steady enthusiasm that only comes from someone who genuinely enjoys both the research and the storytelling.
