Series background & context

Love After is Alexandria House writing about what happens after people have already learned some hard lessons. These are grown-up romances about women who know chemistry is not enough and men who have to meet them where they are.

Nobody here is starting naive.

In Higher Love, Greer Kennedy and Derek Hill meet while both are dealing with serious relationship trouble. Made to Love pairs Trevia McCall, who is still feeling the aftershocks of betrayal, with spoken word artist Nyles Adams. Real Love gives Denise Buhari and tattoo artist Hasaan Peterson a story that begins with friction and slowly opens into something steadier.

The key to the series is right there in the title. These are stories that begin after lies, after messy breakups, after divorce, after disappointment, after the point when a person might reasonably decide they are done trying. House does not treat that history like set dressing. It shapes the pace, the hesitation, and the kinds of risks these women are willing to take.

That makes the books feel very adult. Jobs matter. Pride matters. Self-respect matters. The men are attractive and confident, but the series never pretends romance fixes everything in one scene. Love has to be built, and it usually has to be built while the past is still making noise.

The tone is sexy, funny, and grounded. If you want contemporary romance about rebuilding, choosing better, and learning that a fresh start can still arrive after a mess, Love After is a very solid way into Alexandria House's work.
