Author bio

LM Lacee grew up in Auckland, New Zealand. Later she spent years traveling and living in America and Australia with her husband and their four sons, an experience that gave her a wide mix of places, voices, and personalities to draw on.

Travel seems to have nudged her toward writing.

On her author site, Lacee talks about people-watching as part of the spark. Living in cities like Los Angeles, Sydney, and Santa Barbara gave her a close look at how different people talk, clash, cope, and connect. That interest in everyday behavior shows up even when her stories are full of dragons, star daughters, or shifter politics.

She also came to writing as a lifelong reader. She has said she loved romantic fantasy from her teens onward, and later also fell hard for science fiction. That mix makes sense once you start reading her books. She likes big invented worlds, but she also likes family banter, oddball side characters, and relationships that have to survive real pressure.

As a child, she has said she loved fairy tales, especially stories with talking animals. That feels like a small key to the whole catalogue. Whether she is writing dragons, wolves, bears, big cats, or alien races, she keeps coming back to creatures who speak, argue, protect, and fall in love.

Back in New Zealand, she decided to seriously give writing a go, and one book quickly became more than one. Reighn and Sage's Story opened the door to the sprawling Dragon's Gap world, where dragons, shifters, faeries, and magic all end up tangled together. Readers who enjoy ensemble casts and fated-mate romance tend to find a lot to settle into there.

Found family matters in her fiction.

That thread runs through Dragon's Gap, but it is just as strong in Unknown Universe and the wider Daughter of Ethos series. Those books move her into science fiction, with Peyton St. Hill leading women and alien warriors away from a collapsing Earth toward a new home among the stars. Even in a space opera setup, Lacee keeps returning to the same emotional core: rescue, loyalty, belonging, and the question of who chooses to stand with you when things go bad.

She also writes shorter, tougher shifter stories. The Pride of Lion Edge books, beginning with Recognition:, lean more toward investigation, territorial conflict, and local power struggles. Even there, though, the appeal is not just the external fight. Lacee likes couples and families who have to build trust while the world around them is unstable.

These days she is based in Northland on New Zealand's North Island. It sounds like a good place to keep dreaming up dragons, star systems, stubborn shifters, and large complicated families. If you like romantic fantasy and science fiction that put relationships, group dynamics, and the idea of home at the center, her books give you plenty of places to start.
