Series background & context

The books gathered under Life Due are best read as two linked romantic suspense duets. They are love stories, but they are also mysteries about grief, loyalty, memory, and the damage secrets can do once they finally come out.

The first duet, The Life That Mattered and The Life You Stole, starts with Ronin Alexander and Evelyn. He is restless, wealthy, and used to movement. She is a scientist with her own life and strong ties to her closest friends. Their relationship moves fast, and the series leans into that intensity instead of apologizing for it. The emotional stakes are high from the start.

Then the floor drops out.

As the first two books unfold, money, politics, friendship, betrayal, and loss all start pressing in on the romance. The series keeps asking who really belongs to whom, what can survive after a shattering event, and whether love is enough when trust has been broken in several directions at once.

The later duet, Pieces of a Life and Memories of a Life, shifts to Colten and Josie. Their story begins in childhood, breaks apart, and reconnects years later when he is a homicide detective and she is a forensic pathologist in Chicago. That setup gives the books a different texture. There is still romance, but there is also a strong investigative thread and an unsettling current of dreams, visions, and older history refusing to stay buried.

That mix is what defines the series. If you like romance that turns dark, twisty, and a little mind-bending, these books stay busy in the best way.
