In Grave Reservations, Leda abruptly changes detective Grady Merritt's flight because she feels something is wrong. The original plane explodes, leaving Grady alive and deeply curious about the travel agent who saved him without quite meaning to. He brings her into a cold-case investigation, while Leda has her own reason to say yes: the murder of her fiancé remains unsolved.

Their partnership drives the series. Leda is funny, anxious, stubborn, and not fully in control of what she can do. Grady is skeptical in the useful sense, meaning he asks questions and follows evidence instead of dismissing her.
