Laws of Attraction takes a simple setup and gets a lot of mileage out of it: three high-powered Chicago divorce lawyers who have spent years watching relationships fail are suddenly forced to test their own theories about love. Max Henderson, Lucas Wright, and Grant Lincoln work at the same elite firm, deal in messy breakups for a living, and all have strong reasons for being skeptical. That makes them fun heroes because they are not dreamy about romance. They are practical, sometimes smug, and convinced they know how people work.

Then the series starts proving them wrong.

Down with Love opens the door with Max, a cynical divorce attorney who clashes with Charlie Love, a wedding planner who makes her living selling happily-ever-after. It is a clean opposites-attract setup, and it tells you exactly what kind of series this is: smart adults, sharp tongues, and a lot of tension hidden under professional competence. Illegally Yours raises the stakes by putting Lucas between duty and desire when he falls for Trinity Jones, whose sister is on the other side of one of his cases. Then Came You shifts into second-chance territory as Grant and his ex-wife Aubrey are trapped on a long road trip that forces them to reckon with what their divorce did and did not end.

The ongoing thread is less about one external plot and more about shared worldview. These men see the ugliest side of marriage every day, from custody fights to pure pettiness, so each book asks what happens when somebody slips past the armor they built for work. The answers are funny, sexy, and sometimes surprisingly tender. Meader keeps the legal backdrop present, but this is not a procedure-heavy series. The law firm is mostly a pressure cooker for banter, ethics problems, old baggage, and power struggles.

Chicago suits these books. They feel brisk, urban, and adult, full of offices, bars, weddings, court dates, and too-smart people talking themselves into corners. If you like romance where the leads are capable, a little battle-scarred, and forced to admit they are not as above it all as they think, Laws of Attraction delivers exactly that.
