Series background & context
Ladies of Mayfair is a set of connected but standalone Regency romances set around London Society. The books bring together governesses, companions, ladies with few safe choices, and titled men who are often less certain of themselves than they appear. Ballrooms, carriage rides, house parties, and the rules of the marriage market provide the backdrop.
The heart of the series is Mayfair in 1805.
In The Governess' Debut, orphaned Felicia Scott takes the only respectable position open to her and becomes governess to the difficult young daughter of the Earl of Standish. Winning over the child is challenging enough. The harder task may be persuading the guarded earl to see her as more than an employee.
The Debutante Bride follows Elizabeth Dunseith, who escapes an unhappy home through an arranged marriage to Justin Fulton, Earl of Westfield. Their new relationship has little room to grow before family interference and old ties start to create doubt. Sweet Surrender returns to a former engagement, when Lady Julianna comes back to London and must face Lord Ackerley, the man she once left behind.
The later books lean into secrets and risky arrangements. In The Reluctant Debutante, Lady Victoria, an orphaned governess in her uncle’s household, is drawn into the Duke of Wychwood’s feud with her family. A Dangerous Debut pairs Daisy with Lord Jasper Seaton after he asks her to pretend to be a prospective love interest during a visit to his parents. Her past soon makes their harmless-looking arrangement dangerous.
Tempting the Earl centers on Emily, a young woman with secrets who hides on the carriage of the Earl of Yorkleigh. His decision to help her changes both their plans.
Each novel can be read on its own, though the shared setting makes the series feel like a visit to the same busy social world. Andrews is interested in the narrow options available to women without money or family protection, but she keeps the tone warm. Her heroines find ways to act for themselves, even when Society expects them to be quiet and grateful.
Expect clean romance, emotional misunderstandings, and the occasional threat from the past. These are stories about people trying to build a safe home, often after believing they have lost the chance.
