Series background & context
The Kiss Trilogy asks a question Debbie Viguie clearly enjoys exploring: what happens when supernatural darkness crashes into questions of faith, guilt, and redemption? The answer starts with Raphael, a vampire and former Crusader whose past is steeped in violence and hypocrisy.
In Kiss of Night, Raphael is already cursed and already dangerous, but he is not the whole story. Human characters, especially Susan and David, are pulled into his world and have to decide what they believe, what they fear, and how far they are willing to go to fight evil. That mix keeps the series from feeling like standard vampire romance.
There is romance here, but it is wrapped inside a larger spiritual and moral struggle. Richelieu, relics, old diaries, family secrets, and centuries of unfinished conflict all feed into the plot. The result is a paranormal trilogy that cares as much about choice and conscience as it does about blood and action.
The prequel story Kiss of Life widens the mythology, while Kiss of Death and Kiss of Revenge deepen both the history and the stakes. Readers who enjoy vampire fiction with a more overt faith element usually find something interesting here.
If you want supernatural suspense with a strong redemption thread, start with Kiss of Night, or read Kiss of Life first if you prefer to begin with the prequel.
