Kindred of Arkadia (Alanea Alder) Books in Order

Kindred of Arkadia is the earlier Alanea Alder series, and it has a slightly different feel from Bewitched and Bewildered. The setting is Arkadia, a hidden shifter town where paranormal residents live close together, work together, and keep their world out of human sight. The first book, Fate Knows Best, opens that door through human heroine Rebecca, who stumbles into town and straight into grumpy sheriff Aleksander Arkadion's life.

From there, the series builds book by book through the town itself. Each story follows a different resident or newcomer finding a fated mate, but the real hook is how connected everyone is. Mates, friends, Alpha families, medical staff, and diner regulars all keep circling back, so Arkadia starts to feel less like a backdrop and more like a place you know.

That tone matters. These books have heat and danger, but they also love the rhythms of community life. People show up for meals, childcare, patrols, healing, gossip, and the occasional crisis. Fated to Be Family leans into pack life and complicated family bonds. Fated for Forever pulls a vampire prince into the mix. Fated Forgiveness and Fated Healing show how the series is willing to vary its pairings and relationship shapes while keeping the emotional stakes front and center.

The threats are real, though. Arkadia may feel cozy at times, but it is never safe in any permanent way. Across the series, characters are dealing with abusive pasts, rogue hyenas, outside predators, a town-wide illness, and even a serial killer. In Fated Surrender, that danger lands right on top of a romance built on class assumptions and bad first impressions, which is a good example of how the series likes to mix chemistry with trouble.

What you should expect overall is fated-mate paranormal romance with a strong group dynamic. The heroes range from sheriffs and Alphas to doctors, princes, and people who look far less important than they really are. The relationships also vary from book to book, which gives the series a broader emotional range than some small-town shifter romances. If you enjoy recurring side characters, protective communities, and a little mess around the edges, Arkadia has plenty of that.

It also helps to read these in order. The main couple changes, but the town remembers everything, and later books work better when you already know who people are, who hurt them, and why the community closes ranks so fast when one of their own is in trouble.

Arkadia is warm, watchful, and never quite as quiet as it looks.
