Series background & context

The Kindred series introduces a younger corner of this universe, where teenage vampire hunters, called the Kindred, are raised to fight monsters long before they fully understand what that means. At the center is Cassie, whose life changes the day she learns what she truly is.

In Kindred, Cassie discovers that she comes from a line of vampire slayers and has been bound to this life since birth. With her friends, she tries to balance high school routines with night time hunts, grieving parents lost to vampires while navigating first crushes and new dangers.

Her world tilts again when she meets Devon, the vampire who should be her enemy but instead becomes the person she cannot stay away from. Their connection puts them at odds with both the Kindred and the vampires who see Devon as a traitor.

As the series moves through Ashes, Kindled, Inferno, and Phoenix Rising, Cassie and her friends face more than simple hunts. Elders with their own agendas, powerful halflings, and buried prophecies push them into a larger war. Cassie’s abilities grow in ways that frighten even her allies, and her thirst for revenge threatens to consume her.

By the end of the series, the line between hunter and hunted has blurred, and the choices Cassie and Devon make shape not only their futures but the wider world. The tone is young adult with plenty of action, romance, and angst, and it lays the groundwork for the more adult Fire and Ice books.
