Author bio

Alanea Alder started writing young. Some of her first stories, written in green marker, still live in a keepsake box. She kept at it through grade school and college, long before publication made anything official.

Reading came first too.

She has described her shelves as a mix of just about everything, from Japanese Kanji flashcards and a microbiology study guide to Louisa May Alcott and Laurel K. Hamilton. That range helps explain her fiction. Her books like big feelings, unusual worlds, and characters who can be tender one minute and wildly chaotic the next.

The push toward publishing came later. Alder has said she always enjoyed writing, but a writing convention helped make it feel possible as a real path. Hearing Heather Rainiers talk about her own journey gave Alder the nudge she needed to think, if another writer could do this, maybe she could too.

That leap stuck.

Her first series, Kindred of Arkadia, introduced readers to a hidden shifter town where Fate keeps making life complicated. Books like Fate Knows Best, Fated to Be Family, Fated for Forever, and Fated Healing mix fated mates, danger, humor, and a strong sense of community. Even when the setup gets big and paranormal, the emotional core stays pretty grounded. People who have been hurt are trying to build a home, keep each other safe, and figure out what family is supposed to look like.

Then came Bewitched and Bewildered, the series that brought even more of Alder's worldbuilding to the front. She has said that this series started with the city first, and the plot followed after that. You can feel it on the page. In My Commander, My Healer, My Guardian, and later books like My Beacon and My Haven, the setting matters almost as much as the romance. Secret cities, warrior units, vampire politics, fae courts, magical illness, kidnappings, and one very loud sense of humor all end up sharing space.

That blend is a big part of why readers stick around. Alder likes fated mates, but she also likes found family, group banter, protective heroes, competent heroines, and side characters who never stay on the sidelines for long. Her series often grow outward instead of resetting with each new couple, so the world feels fuller every time a new book adds another relationship to the mix. In 2015, My Healer reached the USA Today list, and that success helped establish her as a steady presence for paranormal romance readers who want action and comedy alongside the love story.

She starts with place, and that might be the quickest way to understand her work. Give her a hidden town, a secret city, or a community under pressure, and she will fill it with warriors, healers, oddballs, and people trying very hard not to fall in love.

These days, she still presents herself first as a reader. She talks about being happiest either at the computer, deep in a story, or curled up on the couch with her iPad and a book. That feels right. Her fiction has the energy of someone who genuinely loves made-up worlds and wants readers to feel at home in them too.
