Author bio
Kimberly Loth was born in Grand Haven, Michigan, and spent her early life moving around the United States. That sense of motion never really left her. It shows up all over her fiction, where snowy islands, swamps, deserts, castles, and small towns feel lived in rather than borrowed.
She has also lived abroad, including time in Cairo, and travel seems to be one of the engines behind her work. On her own sites, she often ties a book back to a place she loved or a trip that sparked it. A Michigan winter romance was drafted while traveling in Vietnam. A Thailand trip helped shape Monkeys and Mayhem. A Louisiana research trip fed the strange, wet dread of Circus of the Dead.
Writing seriously started with a class. In 2008, she took an online creative writing course and wrote a descriptive paragraph about a girl seeing a dragon for the first time. That scene grew into Obsidian, the first Dragon Kings book, and eventually into the long-running series that became one of the centerpieces of her catalog.
She writes fast, and she writes across lanes.
Some readers come to Loth for dragon kings, hidden worlds, and high-stakes romance. Others go straight to the creepy carnival pull of Circus of the Dead, the genie mythology of The Smoking Lamp, or the light-and-dark fantasy setup of God of the Sun. Under the name Kimmy Loth, she also writes contemporary romance, including the Michigan-set Snowfall and Secrets and the small-town Whisper Springs books.
What links those stories is the pace. Her books tend to move quickly, lean into cliffhangers, and center characters who are pulled between danger and desire. She likes magical systems with clear emotional stakes, protective heroes, stubborn heroines, and settings that matter, whether that means a frozen island, a Cairo street, or a circus in the swamp.
She has also stayed close to readers. She does school visits and appearances, talks about writing online, and still frames many series around the travels, questions, and odd sparks that first brought them to life. That makes her bibliography feel broad, but also personal.
These days, she lives in Missouri with her family and writes under both Kimberly Loth and Kimmy Loth. She has been publishing for nearly fifteen years, still loves to travel, and now spends part of her off-page life with grandchildren.
It is a big, busy bibliography.
And that feels right for a writer who seems happiest when a story opens a door to somewhere unexpected.
