Series background & context

Karla Dixon gives Ames a different kind of thriller engine. She is not primarily following footprints, blood drops, or ballistics. She follows money. As a forensic financial investigator and former Army Special Investigator under Jack Reacher, she knows how to read shell companies, offshore accounts, fake fronts, and the little accounting choices that tell a much darker story.

That angle makes the series feel fresh inside Ames's larger catalog. The murders are still there, and so is the danger, but the path into the case often starts with numbers that do not add up. In Killer Trade, eight hundred million missing dollars becomes the key to a Manhattan murder and a wealthy family with much too much to hide.

If you like crime fiction where white-collar polish is just another mask for violence, Karla Dixon is a strong fit. She brings brains, patience, and a very practical sense of what greed can make people do. That should make this a good bridge between Ames's private-eye stories and his more conspiracy-driven thrillers.
