by Jodi Taylor
2013

Just One Damned Thing After Another
by Jodi Taylor
2013
When historian Max Maxwell is recruited by the secretive St Mary's Institute of Historical Research, she discovers that history is studied up close and in person. Her first jumps, from medieval England to dinosaur infested prehistory, prove that time travel, office politics and survival make a very volatile mix.
When a Child is Born
by Jodi Taylor
2013
Christmas at St Mary's means an unofficial jump, this time into the path of Queen Boudicca's rebellion. What should have been a simple seasonal jaunt turns into a brutal reminder that even the most festive missions can end in blood, smoke and very hasty exits.
A Second Chance
by Jodi Taylor

A Trail Through Time
by Jodi Taylor
2014
Reality has started to fray for Max, and an enemy who knows far too much is hunting her through the ages. From Roman Britain to the Blitz, she and her allies race along a trail of altered timelines, trying to put history back together before St Mary's itself is erased.
Christmas Present
by Jodi Taylor
2014
In this St Mary's Christmas special, Max and the team head out on what should be a simple seasonal jump. Naturally it delivers blood soaked history, bad weather, too much tinsel and the reminder that even at Christmas the past is never safe or simple.
Little Donkey
by Jodi Taylor

No Time Like the Past
by Jodi Taylor
2015

Ships and Stings and Wedding Rings
by Jodi Taylor

The Very First Damned Thing
by Jodi Taylor
2015

Dr Bairstow assembles his first ragtag team, battles sceptical backers and tests the earliest time pods, discovering that stolen furniture, experimental tea urns and risky field trips are baked into the institute from the start.
What Could Possibly Go Wrong?
by Jodi Taylor
2015
Promoted to Chief Training Officer, Max must turn a batch of keen but hapless recruits into functioning St Mary's historians. Their curriculum includes Joan of Arc, Stone Age hunters and a very large mammoth, and every lesson proves that training other people can be far worse than risking your own neck.
Lies, Damned Lies, and History
by Jodi Taylor

My Name is Markham
by Jodi Taylor

Seen through Markham's eyes, this novella follows St Mary's most incorrigible security officer as he attempts to survive Christmas, weddings and a mission that goes sideways in record time. It is part love letter, part disaster report and entirely St Mary's.
The Great St Mary's Day Out
by Jodi Taylor
2016

White Silence
by Jodi Taylor
2017
Elizabeth Cage has always seen things other people cannot, a talent she treats as a secret burden rather than a gift. After the sudden death of her controlling husband, she is drawn into a mysterious research institution that seems far too interested in what she can do. Alone, frightened and unsure who to trust, Elizabeth discovers that silence can be far more dangerous than noise.
An Argumentation of Historians

Doing Time
by Jodi Taylor
2019
Time travel nearly destroyed the world, so the Time Police were created to stop anyone from tampering with history again. Jane, Luke and Matthew are the least promising recruits in the organisation, but when a new threat looms this misfit team may be the only group reckless enough to save the future.
Hope for the Best
by Jodi Taylor

When Did You Last See Your Father?
by Jodi Taylor

Max has survived dinosaurs, battles and bureaucrats, but introducing her husband to her father may be the most nerve wracking mission yet. A family encounter collides with St Mary's uncompromising attitude to people it does not like, with predictably unpredictable results.
Why is Nothing Ever Simple?
by Jodi Taylor
2019
A straightforward task for St Mary's, complete with clear instructions and a simple objective, unravels almost immediately. What follows is an object lesson in how minor complications, awkward relatives and the odd assassination attempt can turn simplicity into utter chaos.
Hard Time
by Jodi Taylor
2020

Team 236 are sent undercover to infiltrate a particularly nasty operation, but between personal baggage, shifting loyalties and dangerous clients, surviving the assignment is far from guaranteed.
Joy to the World
by Jodi Taylor
2020
Back at Frogmorton Farm, Jenny and Russell's daughter Joy is certain she is not being treated like an adult, while Russell is equally sure she is growing up far too fast. As father and daughter clash over Christmas, Thomas steps in, and a family crisis becomes a lesson in listening as well as love.

by Jodi Taylor

Another Time, Another Place
by Jodi Taylor

The Toast of Time
by Jodi Taylor

A Catalogue of Catastrophe
by Jodi Taylor

Disaster has always followed St Mary's, but in this instalment the pace accelerates. From royal courts to ruined cities, Max faces a string of missions where every small choice seems to spawn another crisis, and a quiet conspiracy threatens everything the institute has built.
About Time
by Jodi Taylor

An officer is attacked inside headquarters, a prisoner ends up dead and an investigation leads to places no one is supposed to go, while Team 236 is threatened with a revelation that could tear them apart.
Santa Grint
by Jodi Taylor

As Grint and the rest of the Time Police scramble to reach them, a botched experiment back at headquarters threatens to expose secrets that should have stayed buried.
Lights! Camera! Mayhem!
by Jodi Taylor

Author bio
Jodi Taylor was born in Bristol and went to school in Gloucester, where history lessons and library shelves did most of the heavy lifting. She has joked that she spent years with her head somewhere else, and her books make that easy to believe.
Before publishing fiction she worked for North Yorkshire County Council for almost two decades, including a long stint as a library facilities manager. It was a job full of practical detail and quiet bureaucracy, the sort of environment where a lively imagination has to find its own outlet.
In her spare time she began writing what became Just One Damned Thing After Another. After the manuscript failed to find an agent she self published it as an ebook. Word of mouth did the rest. The book picked up a devoted readership, then a traditional publisher, and finally the kind of trade reviews and bestseller list appearances that let her leave local government behind.
That first novel launches the Chronicles of St Mary's, the series that still anchors her fictional universe. At St Mary's Institute of Historical Research a team of accident prone historians step into experimental pods and observe events at places like the Cretaceous, the Great Library of Alexandria or the trenches of the First World War. Their unofficial motto is that it is not time travel at all, just investigating historical events in contemporary time, and Taylor leans into the absurdity of that distinction.
The books are fast, funny and unapologetically messy. Characters argue, fall in love, make terrible decisions and then have to live with the consequences. One page might involve a joke about tea or office politics, the next a desperate scramble to get everyone home alive. That mix of banter, history and emotional punch is a big part of why readers keep following Max Maxwell and her colleagues from one catastrophe to the next.
Taylor has not stayed in one lane. The Time Police novels step outside St Mary's to follow a formidable international organisation tasked with keeping the timeline straight, and a trio of misfit recruits who constantly test its patience. The Frogmorton Farm books are contemporary, rural stories shot through with gentle magic, where an anxious woman named Jenny and an invisible golden horse help each other build a life. The Elizabeth Cage series moves into supernatural thriller territory, following a woman who can see things other people cannot and who attracts the attention of some very dangerous people. She has also written a standalone Regency romance, A Bachelor Establishment, under her own name and, originally, a pen name.
In interviews she has described an ideal writing day that starts early with a mug of tea and a laptop balanced on the bed, followed by long sessions of drafting, re reading and tinkering. She tends to think through problems in the bath and is frank about the amount of cutting, shifting and revising that happens before a book ever leaves her desk.
These days she lives in Gloucestershire and writes full time. Her work has grown into a connected web of series, short stories and crossovers, complete with its own fan convention and in jokes. What has not changed is the core appeal, smart people flung into impossible situations, trying to do the right thing while everything around them explodes, frequently literally.
