That gives the series a steadier PI rhythm even when the body count rises. Ben's reporting adds another angle, and together they keep turning up secrets other people would rather leave buried.

What makes the series stick is the emotional undercurrent. Jessie is driven by the kind of obsession that comes from never getting an answer.
