Jen DeLuca grew up near Richmond, Virginia, where she learned to read young and started making up stories soon after. She later attended Virginia Tech, and the books she writes still make room for romance, community, a good joke, and the chance to begin again.
Before publishing fiction, DeLuca took a winding route through a handful of jobs. She has worked as a wardrobe master, an ice-show dresser, a fountain-pen seller, and a paralegal. That theater background shows up in her attention to costumes, performance, and the surprising confidence people can find when they step into a role.
She didn't come to romance from a straight line.
She had long been writing stories, and a stint volunteering as a pub wench at a Florida Renaissance Faire gave her a useful spark. Wearing costume and improvising with visitors made her think about how people can become bolder when they play a part. That idea became the starting point for Well Met, her 2019 debut.
Well Met introduces Willow Creek, Maryland, and pairs temporary local Emily with Simon, a schoolteacher who runs the town's Renaissance Faire. The book turns volunteering, rehearsals, and an awkward costumed flirtation into an enemies-to-lovers story. Readers who like warm small-town settings, found-family energy, and characters figuring out where home might be will recognize the shape of DeLuca's work here.
She returned to Willow Creek in Well Played, Well Matched, and Well Traveled, each shifting attention to another couple connected to the Faire. The series moves from a mistaken online identity to fake dating and a summer on the road with a traveling Faire. Well Versed continues the setting with a second-chance romance between two former young sweethearts.
There are kilts, corsets, turkey legs, and real feelings.
With Haunted Ever After, DeLuca started the Boneyard Key series, moving to a fictional Florida town that makes its living from ghost tourism. The books keep the banter and close-knit community of her earlier romances, but add haunted houses, ghost tours, and people deciding whether they can put down roots. Ghost Business follows another Boneyard Key romance, built around rival ghost-tour operators.
DeLuca now lives in the Arizona desert with her husband, a rescue dog, and almost too many cats. Away from the page, she has mentioned cold brew coffee, the Oxford comma, and a beloved chicken tender sub as personal favorites. Her fiction is casual, busy, and happiest when people have somewhere to belong.
