Author bio
Jeffrey Siger is a Pittsburgh native who traded a long legal career for a life of crime fiction on the Greek island of Mykonos. Before writing novels, he was a Wall Street lawyer and a name partner in his own New York City law firm. Greece, however, became the place that pulled him in a different direction.
His route into writing began with a conversation at a party. He met a friend who shared a creative-writing ambition both had put aside while building careers. That small moment helped Siger take his own wish to write seriously.
Eventually, he left the law and made mystery thrillers his full-time work.
Siger's books are rooted in the Greece he knows from living there, especially its islands, cities, history, food, family life, politics, and contradictions. His debut, Murder in Mykonos, introduced Chief Inspector Andreas Kaldis, an Athens detective reassigned to an island paradise where a disappearance and a string of killings make it clear that paradise has a darker side. The novel became a bestselling English-language book in Greece and also found readers in Greek translation.
Kaldis remains at the center of the long-running series. He is blunt, stubborn, and willing to challenge people with far more power than he has. In books such as Assassins of Athens, Target: Tinos, An Aegean April, and One Last Chance, Siger sends him from Athens to islands including Tinos, Lesvos, and Ikaria, where local crimes open onto bigger questions about corruption, wealth, migration, tourism, religion, and political pressure.
The setting does real work in these stories. A monastery, a cliffside village, a crowded protest, or a quiet island harbor can all shape the investigation. Siger draws on ancient history without treating Greece as a museum piece. His mysteries are set in a modern country dealing with immediate problems, and Kaldis has to navigate officials, criminals, journalists, families, and his own demanding personal life.
The books also leave room for the people around Kaldis. His wife Lila, his colleague Yianni Kouros, and his assistant Maggie are not just names brought in to move a case along. Their relationships give the investigations warmth, arguments, and occasional humor when the pressure is high.
Siger has served as chair of the National Board of Bouchercon and taught mystery writing as an adjunct professor of English at Washington & Jefferson College. His work has been published in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Bulgaria, and Greece.
He continues to live on Mykonos, an island that has become both home and a recurring source of stories.
