Jeanette Grey Books in Order

Jeanette Grey came to romance writing by way of two very different subjects: physics and painting. That mix makes sense once you look at her books. Science, art, work, ambition, and attraction all have a place in her stories, often with characters trying to figure out what they want from life as well as love.

Before writing full time, Grey earned degrees in physics and painting. She later worked in teaching, technical support, and advertising. It was a wide-ranging path, but none of those jobs turned out to be the right long-term fit.

A difficult stretch teaching at a draining school became a turning point. During a summer break, Grey got back into reading, fell in love with stories again, and returned to writing with real focus. She has said that this was when she finally committed to giving the work the time and effort it needed.

Her romance bibliography moves between contemporary, new adult, futuristic, and erotic romance. She writes both male-female and male-male couples, with an interest in people who may look sorted on the outside but are carrying private worries, pressure, or loneliness. The heat is part of the package, but so is the work of learning to trust someone.

Science gets a clear starring role in When the Stars Align. Josephine "Jo" Kramer heads to Puerto Rico for a summer placement at a major scientific facility and meets fellow researcher Adam McCay. Get What You Need also puts academic pressure at the center of a romance, pairing driven Ph.D. candidate Greg London with his baseball-playing housemate, Marshall "Marsh" Sulkowski.

Grey's Art of Passion books take a more glamorous route. Seven Nights to Surrender sends aspiring artist Kate Reid to Paris, where she meets guarded American expatriate Rylan Bellamy. Eight Ways to Ecstasy follows their relationship to New York, while Nine Kinds of Naughty turns to Rylan's hard-charging sister, Lexie, and her assistant Dane. The series uses travel and the Bellamy family business to give each couple a different kind of pressure to face.

Her shorter contemporary romances can be just as direct. In Take What You Want, a medical-school hopeful makes a bold choice during spring break. Let It Snow traps two bookstore coworkers together during a Christmas blizzard. Confessions in the Dark brings a wounded, private man and the neighbor who refuses to write him off into each other's orbit. Even in a compact novella, Grey gives her characters room to say what they need.

She also writes about the outside world pressing in on a relationship. Taking Aim follows teacher Julie Chao after a shooting at her school pushes her toward gun-control activism. The story keeps the focus on Julie's choices, the risks of visibility, and the question of whether she can trust the intriguing man who offers help.

Grey lives in upstate New York with her husband and pet frog. Away from the page, she enjoys pottery and board games. It is a fitting set of hobbies for a writer whose books often bring together careful thinking, creativity, and the messy business of letting another person in.
