Series background & context

This is a newer romantic suspense series made up of shorter reads, so it moves fast and keeps the focus tight. The setup is simple and appealing: a small-town group of men and women keep getting pulled into mysteries, attacks, and protection jobs, and love tends to show up in the middle of the chaos.

The prequel, Love and Honor, lays some emotional groundwork through a marriage of convenience story. From there, the series branches into compact suspense romances featuring ex-military heroes, nurses, protectors, and people who thought they could stay detached until danger made that impossible.

These are quick books, but not thin ones.

Because the format is shorter, each story leans hard into a central trope or emotional question. A retired military man has to keep a promise. A childhood connection resurfaces under pressure. A grumpy protector has to guard the best friend he already loves. The cases are immediate, the feelings are close to the surface, and the pace rarely slows down.

Compared with Secrets of Rios Azules, this series feels lighter and more streamlined, but it still carries Alexa Verde's usual interests: faith, trust, wounded people, and romance sharpened by danger. If you want something you can read quickly without giving up the mystery element, this is a strong option.

It is probably the best corner of her catalog for readers who like clean romantic suspense in a shorter, more bingeable form.
