Series background & context

Elements of Danger is Dana Mentink’s newer trade suspense line, and the title is a good guide to what it is doing. These books pair criminal danger with major natural threats, so the characters are always dealing with two problems at once: the people after them and the world coming apart around them.

Fire Mountain opens with a trucker waking in a wrecked rig near an erupting volcano, holding an abandoned baby and no memory of how she got there. Raging Waters shifts to a true crime podcaster, a suspected drug kingpin, and catastrophic floodwater in the Pacific Northwest. The scale is larger than in many of Mentink’s category novels, but the focus stays close on guilt, family fallout, and trust.

If you like romantic suspense that reads a little bigger and more cinematic, this is the page to try. Start with Fire Mountain and move to Raging Waters for the clearest sense of how the series builds.
