Kimmie-Jayne Starr thinks she has landed a dream role on a huge reality show. Instead, she arrives on Mystic Cove and realizes the twenty-five bachelors competing for her heart are hiding very supernatural secrets.

That contrast is the whole appeal. The early books get a lot of mileage out of Kimmie trying to survive reality-show expectations while also learning that vampires, fae, angels, dragon shifters, and other dangerous beings are all very real. She is expected to smile for the cameras, sort through her feelings, and avoid getting killed, sometimes all in the same scene.

Mystic Cove is not exactly relaxing.

What keeps the series moving is the way the romantic setup grows into a wider world. The bachelors are not just love interests. They are tied to powerful families, territories, and conflicts that matter beyond the show. Once Kimmie starts meeting those families and seeing how the supernatural world actually works, the stakes rise fast. Choosing a partner is no longer just emotional. It has political consequences.

Kimmie works well as the center of all this because she starts from a human perspective. She does not walk in with a guidebook to Azar, so readers get to discover the world alongside her. The books lean into mystery too, with accidents, betrayals, and shifting loyalties that make the glamorous setting feel far less safe than it looks.

Tonally, Hitched sits in a sweet spot between romantic fun and paranormal suspense. If you like dating-show drama, group-cast tension, and connected fantasy worlds that gradually open wider, this is a good place to begin with DeRosa. It also lays groundwork for several of the later Azar series, which makes it useful reading if you think you may want to follow the bigger world.
