Series background & context

Hidden Springs is a three-book Amish romance series set in a small Illinois community hit by a destructive storm. The tornado's aftermath gives the series its starting point: homes and routines have been damaged, people need help, and characters who thought they knew their futures must take another look at them.

The first book, The Amish Wedding Promise, begins on Grace Lantz's wedding day. Grace already has doubts about marrying Timothy, then a tornado tears through Hidden Springs and delays the ceremony. Her groom is missing, her family has urgent problems to face, and she feels guilty for being relieved that the wedding has been interrupted.

Zeke Bontrager arrives with other volunteers from Indiana to help the community clean up. He has his own reasons for wanting to prove himself, especially to his father. As Grace and Zeke work side by side, their connection grows at precisely the moment when both of them are supposed to be thinking about practical responsibilities, not romance.

Everything in Hidden Springs starts with a storm.

The later books stay with the community while shifting to new couples. The Amish Christmas Gift follows Elsie Miller and Levi Wyse, whose past relationship is full of missed signals and hurt feelings. Christmas, close quarters, and family obligations push them to face the reasons they drifted apart. Levi is also caring for his younger sister, Abigail, which adds responsibility to every choice he makes.

The Amish Secret Wish centers on Hallie Brunstetter and Hezekiah "Kiah" Esh. Hallie secretly writes a popular Amish newspaper column, while Kiah has become attached to the unknown writer through their correspondence. Their story uses letters, hidden identities, and the fear of being known too well to build its romance.

The series is warm but not entirely light. Tornado recovery, broken engagements, grief, family needs, old misunderstandings, and self-doubt give the characters real problems to work through. Still, the tone stays hopeful. Helping neighbors, sharing work, and making room for forgiveness are as important as courtship.

Hidden Springs itself is a small community where private trouble becomes visible quickly, especially after a disaster brings everyone together. That closeness creates pressure, but it also gives people a network of support when they need it most.

Start with The Amish Wedding Promise, then continue with The Amish Christmas Gift and The Amish Secret Wish. Each book has its own central couple, but the storm-battered town and its returning residents provide a satisfying thread across the series.
