Series background & context
Hidden Legacy takes place in an alternate version of modern Houston where a nineteenth‑century discovery of a serum unlocked inheritable magical powers. Generations later, society is dominated by powerful dynasties called Houses, families who marry for magic, run private armies, and treat city politics like a chessboard.
At the center of the series is the Baylor family. Nevada Baylor starts as a pragmatic private investigator trying to keep their small agency afloat while caring for her younger sisters, her mother, and an assortment of lovable relatives. She has a secret truth‑seeking talent that makes her very good at her job and very vulnerable if the wrong House discovers it.
The early books follow Nevada as she is forced into high‑risk cases that pit her against rogue mages, conspiracies, and the intense telekinetic known as Connor “Mad” Rogan. What begins as a reluctant partnership slowly turns into trust, attraction, and eventually a shared future, all while the family is dragged deeper into House politics.
Later installments shift the spotlight to Catalina, Nevada’s younger sister, whose own power over emotion is both terrifying and tightly controlled. As head of House Baylor, Catalina has to navigate assassination attempts, magical crimes, and suitors who may or may not be trying to use her. Each arc combines mystery structure—a case to solve—with escalating personal and political stakes.
Throughout the series, readers can expect fast-paced action scenes, inventive uses of magic, and a strong emphasis on family loyalty. The Baylors argue, tease, and sometimes exasperate one another, but they also show up when it counts, whether that means fixing a battle‑damaged armored vehicle or standing together against far older and richer Houses.
Hidden Legacy is a good fit if you want romance woven tightly into urban fantasy, where solving the mystery is just as important as figuring out who you can trust with your heart.
