Series background & context

The Hex on Me Mysteries is a cozy paranormal mystery series about Tempest "Lou" Lilura, a witch with a very inconvenient curse. Lou receives visions of murders before they happen, which means she has to find the victim, identify the killer, and stop the crime before time runs out.

That would be difficult enough without the rest of her life. Lou's curse comes from the immortal Lich Queen, and breaking it is an ongoing concern. Her efforts bring her into the path of strange magic, dangerous people, and a group of companions who are helpful in their own chaotic ways.

Her warnings do not come with instructions.

Lou is joined by a conspiracy-minded warlock, an upbeat healer, and a familiar with very strong opinions about manners. The group travels through a magical world populated by witches, druids, supernatural creatures, and plenty of suspicious characters. Each mystery gives Lou another chance to use her unwanted gift before a predicted murder becomes real.

The tone is lighter than Layne's military suspense, but the stakes are still clear. There is humor in the bickering and magical mishaps, while the cases maintain a race-against-time structure. Lou cannot simply observe from the sidelines when she knows someone may die.

The series begins with If the Curse Fits, which introduces Lou, the curse, and the people who become her unlikely support system. Later books continue the mix of magical investigations, oddball companions, and clues that must be sorted before the clock runs out.

Start at the beginning. Lou's curse and her evolving relationships give the series its ongoing thread.
