Even when the setups are heightened, the emotional stakes stay simple and readable. These characters are trying to protect themselves, and then someone inconvenient comes along.

Expect books that are steamy, dramatic, and built on strong push-pull chemistry. The campus setting keeps everything close. Characters run into each other at the rink, at parties, at work, and through mutual friends. Nobody gets much room to hide. That gives Hellcats Hockey a nice claustrophobic energy, in the best romance-novel way, because once the feelings start, the characters are forced to deal with them.
