Haven Trilogy Books in Order

Jo Ann Ferguson's Haven trilogy is a historical romance series set in Haven, Indiana, during the 1870s. The town sits on the Ohio River and offers shelter to people who have reason to leave their pasts behind, though its close-knit residents make true anonymity almost impossible.

The first book, Twice Blessed, introduces Emma Delancy. Haven has been her refuge for years, but her fragile peace is disrupted when she rescues an orphaned boy and clashes with newcomer Noah Sawyer. Moonlight on Water follows steamboat captain Wyatt Colton after repairs bring him to town. He meets Rachel Browning and the orphaned girl in Rachel's care, Kitty. Their lives are tied to River's Haven, a nearby utopian religious settlement whose promises of harmony hide serious pressure and limits on personal freedom.

The trilogy closes with After the Storm. Like the earlier novels, it uses the town as a place where people rebuild after loss, reckon with old choices, and discover that community can be both a comfort and a challenge.

The series has a softer, family-centered feeling than Ferguson's Regency mysteries. The stakes are still real, involving past crimes, children in need of care, social rules, and difficult decisions about trust. But the appeal lies in watching people make a home, form connections, and learn that second chances can require courage.

The river setting gives the books a sense of movement. Travelers arrive, news comes from elsewhere, and the town is never as isolated as its residents might wish. Yet Haven itself remains the emotional center, a place where people notice one another's struggles and sometimes step in to help.
