Series background & context

Hamilton Christmas is a trio of holiday novellas set in Hamilton, Virginia, where family history, town traditions, and December weather do a lot of heavy lifting. These are short romances, so the stories move quickly, but they still have Kauffman's usual mix of heat, humor, and people who are more vulnerable than they first appear.

What ties the books together is the town itself. In Unleashed, a pet-sitting job turns into a Christmas week locked inside a mansion with the wrong man, or maybe the exactly right one. Lock, Stock & Jingle Bells shifts the focus to a novelty Christmas shop, an old crush, and a diary that opens up family secrets. Naughty but Nice brings in a local baker and a businessman with big plans that threaten to change the town she loves.

These are holiday romances, so you get decorations, snow, baked goods, and last-minute emotion. But the better thread is about belonging. Each story asks whether love can survive old misunderstandings, class differences, family baggage, or clashing ideas about what home should look like.

That gives the series a sweet center.

If you want festive Donna Kauffman without a huge time commitment, Hamilton Christmas is a good pick. Read it for the lights and mistletoe, but stay for the way each novella treats small-town life as something worth protecting.
