Halfway Witchy Books in Order

Halfway Witchy is one of Terry Maggert's most welcoming series, though welcoming does not mean safe. The books follow Carlie McEwan, a good witch who lives in Halfway, a tourist town in upstate New York near an Adirondack lake. She cooks at the local diner, listens to her Gran, and shares her life with Gus, an enormous Maine Coon cat whose personality is almost as strong as anyone else's.

The setting does a lot of work here.

Halfway feels cozy in the best sense. There is food, routine, local gossip, and the kind of small-town texture that makes readers want to stay a while. But the town is also close to deep woods, old magic, and the sort of buried trouble that never really goes away. In Halfway Dead, a stranger draws Carlie into the forest in search of a lost grove, and what looks like a simple request turns into ghosts, family history, and murder. That pattern stays important across the series. Everyday life is always brushing up against something older and darker.

Carlie is the reason the books hold together so well. She is capable without being hard, funny without feeling flippant, and rooted enough that the town never becomes just backdrop. Her Gran gives the series wisdom and bite, and the supporting cast slowly turns Halfway into a place with real emotional stakes. Later books widen Carlie's world with deeper supernatural threats, romance, and more reasons for her to grow into the job of protecting the people she loves.

It is cozy, but it is not flimsy.

That balance is the charm. The books give you waffles, coffee, and witchcraft, but they also give you monsters, grief, danger in the woods, and the sense that kindness has to be defended if it is going to last.
