Series background & context

The Grayhaven series, written by Rita Stradling with Alexa B. James, takes place in a hidden supernatural town that can feel like a refuge, a trap, or both. Grayhaven is home to werewolves, witches, fae, demons, and other people who need somewhere outside the ordinary world.

Teagan arrives there running for her life.

In Escaping Monsters, Teagan has spent years under the control of cruel werewolves after her con-artist husband sold her to them. As an omega, she is especially vulnerable to dominant wolves, whose commands can override her will. Escape gives her a chance at freedom, but she has learned the hard way that safety is never something to assume.

Grayhaven is strange from the start. It has supernatural politics, magical defenses, biker demons, fae royalty, and witches who work with death magic. The town's oddness gives the series room for humor and surprise, but it also serves a serious purpose. It is a place where people with dangerous histories can hide, heal, and build a life beyond the groups that once owned or controlled them.

Teagan meets five werewolves who believe she is connected to them as a mate. That premise makes this an adult why-choose romance, but the story does not treat trust as automatic. Teagan's past has made her cautious, and the men around her have to show that protection does not have to mean control. Their developing bond is tied to her larger attempt to decide what home and consent can look like after abuse.

The danger continues beyond the first escape. In Fighting Monsters, threats to Grayhaven's magical protection put the town itself at risk. Teagan and her pack have something to lose now, which changes the stakes. The series keeps expanding the town's mysteries while returning to the question of whether a sanctuary can stay safe when old enemies know how to find it.

Expect paranormal romance with a fast-moving plot, fated-mate tension, found family, and an adult level of heat. The emotional center is Teagan's recovery and growing confidence. Grayhaven may be full of monsters, but it is also where she starts learning that she does not have to face them alone.

Begin with Escaping Monsters, followed by Fighting Monsters and Hunting Monsters. The books continue Teagan's story and are best read in order.
