Set again in the exclusive world of Gilded, this second installment follows another couple as they test boundaries, trade control, and discover that the club’s games are only the starting point for a far more vulnerable kind of connection.

Sugar

by Layla Frost

2025

A college journalist chases a story and ends up inside Gilded, a secret adult club for LA’s elite, shadowing star lawyer Easton Wells. When he offers her a sugar-baby arrangement instead of romance, curiosity and chemistry turn their tidy deal into something real.

Series background & context

The Gilded series is Layla Frost’s glossy, high-heat take on age-gap romance among Hollywood’s power players. Set around an exclusive, invitation-only club in Los Angeles, these books explore what happens when curiosity, ambition, and desire collide behind a very well-guarded door.

In Sugar, the first book in the series, a college journalism student goes looking for a story and finds Easton Wells instead. He is a lawyer to the stars, controlled and impeccably put together, with a reputation for making problems disappear. When she follows him, expecting scandal, she stumbles into Gilded, a secret adult club that caters to the city’s elite. The place is designed for anonymity and indulgence, but she is too fascinated to walk away.

Rather than offering her a traditional romance, Easton proposes an arrangement. She will be his sugar baby, gaining access to parties, contacts, and the club’s inner workings. In return, he gets her time, attention, and company on his terms. What starts as a business-like deal slowly becomes more tangled as real feelings push against negotiated rules and both of them confront what they actually want.

The world of Gilded is built on contrasts. Outside the club, there are classes, deadlines, and the usual grind of a young woman trying to build a career. Inside, there are private rooms, masks, and carefully managed scenes where powerful people choose to let go. Frost is interested in the gap between those spaces - how a person acts when the mask is on versus when they are finally honest in the dark.

Future installments, beginning with Spice, promise to stay anchored in that same club. Each book introduces new couples with their own kinks, secrets, and blind spots, but the shared setting means returning readers get to watch familiar faces in the background and see how choices in one story echo in another. The overall tone is relationship-focused rather than shock-driven, even when the sex and power play get intense.

Compared with Frost’s mechanic and biker books, Gilded leans more into luxury and polished surfaces, yet the emotional through-line is similar. Her characters still have to negotiate consent, trust, and vulnerability. The club provides the stage; the heart of the story comes from how people use that stage to explore parts of themselves they have never dared to show.

If you are looking for an entry point into kinkier, club-based romance without diving straight into her darkest work, Gilded is a strong starting place. Reading in order will let you follow the evolution of the club itself, along with the sugar-sweet, slow-burn chaos that comes from mixing fame, money, and feelings in one gilded box.
