From the Ashes Trilogy Books in Order

From the Ashes opens with a great hook: the heroine has already died, and that is only the start of her problems. The series follows Camila, who is living under the name Octavia after surviving her own murder. She is hiding, trying to work out who wanted her dead and why she came back, and very quickly learns that the answer lives deep inside a supernatural world she barely understands.

That setup gives the trilogy a darker feel than some of Espinosa's other work. Octavia is not entering magic because she is curious. She is doing it because staying ignorant will get her killed again, or worse. The early books carry a real sense of instability. She does not know who she can trust, what she has become, or why so many powerful people suddenly care about her existence.

As the series moves through Phoenix Burn, Phoenix Rise, and Dark Phoenix, the mythology gets bigger. Octavia is tied to phoenix power, which means death is no longer a clean escape. Vampires, shifters, angels, and Lucifer himself all get pulled into the story, and the books steadily turn from murder mystery into a wider supernatural war. Even so, the emotional center stays personal. Octavia is trying to hold onto her agency in a world where every bargain seems designed to strip it away.

It is a rough road.

One thing that makes this trilogy stand out is the way it mixes modern urban fantasy with a more hellish, supernatural-fallout vibe. There is action, but there is also captivity, manipulation, temptation, and the ugly reality of being marked by a power you do not want. Octavia can be vulnerable, impulsive, and funny, sometimes all in the same chapter, which keeps the books from getting too grim.

If you like your fantasy a little darker, with a heroine who has to claw her way back from trauma while demons, immortals, and dangerous allies close in, From the Ashes is a strong fit. It moves quickly, keeps raising the stakes, and never lets Octavia's personal fight disappear inside the larger supernatural chaos.
