Fate of the Darkmages Books in Order

This series appears to center on Val and the dangerous path of becoming, surviving, and mastering darkmage power. The available books point to a story built around pursuit, forbidden training, and a larger threat tied to something called Brightshadow and the Eclipse.

That immediately makes the series feel like a coming-into-power story, but not a comfortable one. Val is not being invited into a stable magical world. She is being hunted by it, judged by it, and forced to learn from people who know exactly how destructive that power can become.
