Series background & context

This is one of Cara Wylde's lighter and more openly playful projects. Fairy Tales With A Shift takes familiar fairy tale structures and retells them through bear-shifter romance.

That means the stories feel instantly recognizable, but never quite familiar.

Instead of trying to rebuild the old tales in a strict way, the series uses them as frameworks for fast, steamy, standalone romances. A cursed princess, a girl in the woods, a hunted heroine, a beast in a ruined mansion, each setup gets translated into a paranormal world where bear shifters stand in for princes, rescuers, cursed men, or dangerous protectors.

Because the books are short, the focus stays tight. Each one is built around one central couple, one clear fantasy-romance hook, and a happy ending. The appeal is not complex shared-world politics. It is the pleasure of seeing a classic setup turned warmer, wilder, and more obviously romantic.

The bear-shifter element gives the whole series a consistent tone. These heroes are large, protective, and intense, but the stories stay readable and accessible rather than heavy. So if you want fairy-tale vibes, quick paranormal romance, and standalone stories you can dip in and out of, this series does exactly what its title promises.
