Series background & context

Executive Power is a companion series to The Executive Office that zeroes in on two fan-favorite side characters, Russian president Sergey Puchkov and his bodyguard-turned-lover Sasha Andreyev. Where the main series is loud and global, these books are more intimate, following one relationship through trauma, recovery, and the kind of danger that reaches into space.

Ascendent serves as Sasha’s origin story. Raised in poverty and carrying a secret he was taught to hate, he joins the Russian army and fights his way into an elite unit before ending up in Moscow as part of Sergey’s security team. Their connection grows in the margins of state visits and security briefings, until Sasha’s shame and nightmares finally drive him to run.

The novel traces his journey back toward Sergey, both physically and emotionally. Flashbacks to his childhood and to brutal army experiences explain the scars he carries, while a present-day mission into Russia’s frozen interior forces him to confront the pieces of himself he has tried to cut away. It is equal parts love story and psychological thriller, set against abandoned towns, haunted forests, and the quiet ruthlessness of Russian politics.

In Stars, Sasha has made it to NASA’s astronaut corps in Houston, the first Russian in the program in years. He and Sergey are keeping their relationship secret while Sasha trains, but that fragile balance shatters when a forgotten Soviet-era satellite activates and begins a hostile run toward Earth.

Sasha joins an emergency mission to intercept the satellite, only to discover that someone on the ground may be sabotaging the crew. The book jumps between cramped spacecraft, mission control, and the Kremlin, asking how much Sasha and Sergey are willing to sacrifice to save each other and prevent another global catastrophe.

Together, the Executive Power novels read like a duet about survival and second chances. They reward readers who met Sergey and Sasha in The Executive Office, but they also stand on their own as stories about a closeted soldier, a calculating president, and the long, hard work of building trust when the whole world has taught you to hide.
