Author bio
Eryn Scott is a cozy mystery author from the Seattle area whose books are packed with close friendships, strong families, curious pets, and just enough murder to keep things interesting. She lives in the Pacific Northwest, and that damp-weather, blanket-and-tea energy shows up all over her work.
Before she wrote full time, Scott spent about ten years as an elementary school teacher. She has said she loved the classroom, but health issues eventually made that work harder to sustain. Writing became not just a creative outlet, but the career that fit the rest of her life better.
That shift matters.
Her earlier books lean more toward contemporary romance and women's fiction, with titles like A Chance for Sunny Skies, Meet Me in the Middle, and The Beauty of Perhaps. Those stories are full of reinvention, awkward humor, and women trying to figure out what they want once the old plan stops working.
Then came the cozies. In Literally Dead, English major Pepper Brooks gets caught in a murder case shaped by literary clues. In Steeped in Suspicion, Rosemary Woodmere inherits a Victorian teahouse, a ghost, and far too many questions. In Littered with Trouble, Lou starts over in a bookstore that doubles as a rescue cat sanctuary. Different settings, same instinct for warmth, humor, and community.
Cats matter here. A lot.
That animal-loving, people-first feeling runs through almost everything Scott writes. Her series are usually built around a strong central community, neighbors, siblings, best friends, regular customers, and pets that are often smarter than the humans nearby. Even when there is a ghost in the room or a body in the hallway, the books stay grounded in relationships.
Her later mystery series show how flexible that formula can be. The Stoneybrook books follow jam-maker Hadley James in a small mountain town centered around a year-round farmers market. A Body in 3B moves into a quirky downtown Seattle apartment building full of living and ghostly residents. Screamish takes a slightly creepier turn, but still keeps the pages cozy rather than grim.
Off the page, Scott has shared that she is a serious cat person. She lives with her husband, cats, and a rescue dog named Marshall, and those animals often keep her company while she writes. She also enjoys hiking, horseback riding, knitting, skiing, reading, and musicals, even by her own account she is better at loving them than performing in them.
She has also spoken openly about living with autoimmune diseases, including alopecia. That honesty helps explain something readers often respond to in her fiction. The books are gentle without feeling flimsy. They make room for change, loss, second chances, and the strange little turns life can take.
Rain, tea, books, cats, murder. That is very much the Eryn Scott lane.
