A Murder at the Morrisey Mystery takes a cozy mystery structure and drops it into downtown Seattle, which gives the whole series a slightly different flavor from the usual small-town setup. The center of everything is the Morrisey, a quirky apartment building in Pioneer Square where the residents, living and dead, are all tangled up in one another's lives.

Meg Dawson returns to the building after a rough stretch away, hoping to find something steady. Instead, A Body in 3B throws her straight into murder. Meg can see ghosts, and that makes her version of sleuthing more complicated than most. She has access to clues the police do not, but using them means navigating a reality almost nobody else around her understands.

The most important relationship in the series is the one between Meg and Ripley, the ghost who died in the same tragic accident that took Meg's mother before Meg was born. Ripley has spent years watching over her, and their bond gives the books a friendly paranormal core. They bicker, protect each other, and work together in a way that keeps the ghost element personal instead of bleak.
