Author bio

Emily Raymond is a novelist best known for collaborations with James Patterson and for work in young adult fiction. Her published author notes also identify her as the ghostwriter of six young adult novels, including one that reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her family.

Much of Raymond's visible bibliography moves between the big feelings of teen fiction and the urgency of a thriller. Her books include the road-trip romance First Love, the fantasy finale The Lost, the dystopian novel Humans, Bow Down, and the contemporary suspense stories Raised by Wolves and Emma on Fire.

Her work on the Witch & Wizard world is a useful place to see that range. In The Lost, Whit and Wisty Allgood face a city turning against magic just as a dangerous new enemy rises. The story has spells, family loyalty, and a fast-moving fight over who gets to hold power.

The stakes are usually personal before they become much bigger.

In First Love, Raymond and Patterson follow Axi Moore, a rule-following high school student who takes an impulsive cross-country trip with her best friend, Robinson. It begins as an escape from a carefully managed life, then becomes a tender and painful story about friendship, first love, and the way a trip can change when life refuses to follow the plan.

Raymond's other collaborations show how comfortably she can shift the setup. The Injustice, also published as Expelled, puts wrongly accused teenagers in the middle of a school mystery. Sophia, Princess Among Beasts sends a young princess into a frightening realm of monsters. In The Girl in the Castle, a teenager's present-day confinement and a desperate life in medieval England seem to overlap in ways that could save, or endanger, her family.

She doesn't stay in one lane.

That flexibility carries into her adult-leaning suspense. Little Black Dress centers on a lonely New York magazine editor whose new confidence leads somewhere unsettling. Raised by Wolves begins when two feral siblings appear in a small town, forcing its residents to confront the mystery of where they came from. Emma on Fire follows a formerly perfect student whose shocking public act reveals grief, anger, and a refusal to accept the future others have mapped out for her.

Raymond's books tend to put young people, or people caught at a breaking point, under real pressure. They run from danger, investigate who set them up, protect family, or try to make sense of a world that suddenly feels hostile. The pace is direct, the chapters move quickly, and the emotional problem usually matters as much as the external threat.

Her public profile is brief, but the credits tell a clear story. Raymond has built a varied body of work around romance, fantasy, dystopian danger, mysteries, and the hard choices people make when the rules no longer feel safe.
