Author bio
Elizabeth Briggs built a career on stories that move fast, lean hard into romance, and are never afraid of a big supernatural or sci-fi hook. She was born in Los Angeles, studied sociology at UCLA, and spent much of her life in Southern California. Before writing full time, she worked at an international law firm, mentored teens in writing, and volunteered with dog rescue groups.
Her path to publishing was not a straight line.
That mix of day jobs and side passions shows up in her books. Briggs wrote for both teens and adults, and she did not stick to one shelf for long. She moved from contemporary romance to time travel, then into dragons, angels, demons, and fated mates, while keeping the stories emotionally direct and easy to fall into.
Readers who started with Future Shock met one side of her writing right away. The book follows a foster teen with perfect recall who gets pulled into a secret trip to the future, and it mixes suspense, romance, and a ticking clock. It went on to launch a trilogy and helped establish Briggs as a writer who liked high-concept plots just as much as character drama.
Another big part of her catalog came through interconnected contemporary romances like More Than Music, More Than Comics, and the rest of the Chasing the Dream books. Those stories are grounded in bands, reality shows, creative work, and young adults trying to build a life while figuring out who they love. They have a lighter setting than some of her later fantasy books, but they share the same quick pace and strong romantic pull.
Then came the paranormal and fantasy romances that many readers know her for: Demon King, Wicked Wings, Moon Touched, and Stroke the Flame, along with the series that followed them. Here Briggs really opened things up. Devils ran corporations. Half-demons snuck into academies. Wolf shifters fought pack politics and false mate bonds. Dragon mates crossed whole realms trying to bring down tyrants. However wild the setup got, the emotional engine stayed clear. Her heroines are usually smart, cornered, and tougher than people expect.
That range was a big part of the appeal.
She also spent real time helping people outside her fiction. Multiple biographies note her work with teens in foster care, other young writers, and animal rescue organizations. Even if her books were built for escape, there was something grounded about the life behind them.
In later years, Briggs spoke openly about living with Stage IV colon cancer. She died in 2025. Her official biography remembers her as a Los Angeles based bestselling author, a mentor, a volunteer, and a mother, and that feels like a fair summary of the person readers came to know.
She is survived by her husband and daughter, along with what she affectionately called her pack of fluffy dogs. Her bookshelf still gives new readers plenty of ways in. You can start with the time-travel mystery of Future Shock, the creative-world romance of More Than Music, the dark fantasy pull of Demon King, or the wolf shifter chaos of Moon Touched. Different doors, same writer, a love of high stakes, strong feelings, and a plot that never sits still.
