Kemmerer treats the supernatural as part of everyday life rather than a shiny escape from it, so the emotional stakes feel immediate even when the plot turns violent.

The linked novellas, especially Fearless and Breathless, add extra texture between the main books. They deepen Hunter's story, fill in Nick's emotional arc, and make the series feel less like separate couples and more like one ongoing family saga. That is helpful because the tension builds across the whole run, not just inside one romance at a time.

If you want paranormal YA with a strong family spine, multiple points of view, and a lot of heart under the chaos, this is the shape of the series. It works best in order, because loyalties, grudges, and power struggles keep carrying forward from one book to the next.
