Series background & context

The Dreamwalker mysteries follow Baxley Powell, a Georgia landscaper and pet sitter with an unusual family gift. Baxley can enter the spirit world through dreams and communicate with people who have died. That ability makes her useful to local law enforcement, but it also puts her in danger when the dead carry secrets that powerful living people want hidden.

Baxley has plenty to manage before the ghosts arrive. She is raising her daughter, Larissa, while trying to make ends meet through landscaping, pet sitting, and occasional consulting work. Her husband has gone missing while serving in the military and has been declared dead, but Baxley has reasons to wonder whether that is the whole truth. Her father, a former county dreamwalker, knows more about the limits and risks of the gift than he first shares.

The dead do not always cooperate.

In Gone and Done It, Baxley uncovers human remains while working at a plantation and uses dreamwalking to investigate. The case earns her a role helping the sheriff, but it also makes her a target. Bubba Done It starts with a dying man's accusation, except several local men are named Bubba and each has a reason to resent the victim.

Later books widen the paranormal side of the series. Doggone It brings Baxley into a haunted house, a local film production, and a double homicide while her abilities fail her. Dadgummit combines a suspicious death with dangerous energy-draining forces. Confound It, Dreamed It, and All Done With It build on the larger questions surrounding Baxley's family, her powers, and the uneasy boundary between this world and the next.

Sinclair County is a key part of the appeal. It is a small Southern community where family connections, local grudges, pets, gossip, and old folklore sit beside murder investigations. The tone is cozy in its day-to-day details, but the threats can become genuinely eerie. Baxley has a caring circle around her, including her daughter, parents, friends, and eventually Deputy Sam Mayes.

Read these in order. Each novel has its own murder to solve, but Baxley's personal story and the supernatural mythology develop from book to book. Start with Gone and Done It to see her step into the dreamwalker role, then follow her as every case tests what she can do and what it costs.
