Dragon's Gift: The Dark Fae Books in Order

Dragon's Gift: The Dark Fae is one of the more romance driven corners of the Dragon's Gift world, but it keeps Hall's usual speed and action. The series follows Mari, a demon slayer with dragon blood who is trying to keep a dangerous part of herself secret. That setup is already enough to cause problems. Then a fae king learns the truth, and the books turn into a mix of court politics, undercover work, fate, and attraction that neither side really wants to admit.

The first hook is strong because Mari has practical reasons to keep her head down. She is not looking for a crown, a mate, or a destiny. She is trying to keep her job, do her work, and stop her secret from wrecking her life. Tarron, the King of the Seelie Fae, changes that. Their bond is not convenient, and the books get a lot of mileage out of the push and pull between desire, distrust, and duty.

The fae politics matter here.

Mari is sent into fae territory for answers about why the balance between dark and light is off, and that lets the series widen into courts, war, and older magical forces. Hall does not let the setting bog things down. The books still move quickly. But the fae world gives them a different texture than the earlier artifact hunting series. There is more royalty, more destiny, and more danger built into who the characters are rather than just what they are chasing.

As the series continues, fate gets meaner. Mari is not only dealing with a fated mate she does not fully trust. She is also forced to face the possibility that her future may demand the worst possible choice from her. That adds a nice edge to the romance because loving Tarron is never just a simple emotional decision. It is tangled up with kingdom level stakes and supernatural rules that do not care what either of them wants.

This is a good pick if you want Hall's shared world but prefer fae courts, stronger romantic tension, and a heroine who has to move through both danger and prophecy. The books are steamier than some of the earliest Dragon's Gift arcs, but they still keep the adventure side active.
