Pirates have left him stranded on a misty tropical island, where Sugar Caine has been ordered to keep him safe. Sugar has lived in isolation, and Jackson's arrival brings both attraction and a problem she cannot ignore. The island might look like a refuge, but it is also a target.

The past catches up fast.

Jackson and Sugar must deal with the pirate threat while deciding whether either of them can risk a future with someone else. Their story has a more enclosed setting than Cooper and Jessica's, but it keeps the series' central ingredients: a resourceful woman, a dangerous man with enemies, and a romance tested by immediate physical danger.

Readers can enjoy each book as a complete romance, since Cooper and Jessica lead the first and Jackson and Sugar lead the second. Still, reading in order gives the family connection and the continuing pirate conflict more weight.
