The Dirty Angels books live in one of Karina Halle’s darkest contemporary worlds. They are linked cartel romances set around the Bernal family and the people unlucky, or lucky, enough to fall into their orbit. The first book sets the tone right away, with a heroine pulled into the brutal world of Javier Bernal, a cartel boss who is dangerous even before feelings get involved.

From there the series expands through connected characters rather than a single clean arc. Power struggles, kidnappings, betrayals, family obligations, and revenge all keep the pressure high, while each book focuses on a different romance or a different piece of the same violent network.

That structure gives the series a restless feel. One story may start with a woman trying to survive being pulled into cartel business. Another may follow a different Bernal brother or someone who thought they could stay outside the family’s reach. Love is never separate from danger here. It usually makes the danger worse.
