Devils (Karina Halle) Books in Order

The Devils books are dark, loud, and a little grimy in the best way. The series starts in the 1970s with Dawn Emerson, a young music journalist who lands what should be a dream assignment, going on tour with an up and coming metal band called Hybrid. Instead of just getting backstage stories, she gets pulled into a world of ego, drugs, sex, obsession, and something much worse.

That something worse is guitarist Sage Knightly, or more accurately, whatever is hanging around him.

What makes this duet work is how completely it throws rock mythology into horror. Fame is not just exhausting or corrupting here. It feels cursed. Sage is magnetic, self destructive, and dangerous in more ways than one, and Dawn has to decide how close she is willing to get when every answer seems to lead deeper into the dark.

The second book widens the damage. What happens in the first novel does not stay on the tour bus. The bargain at the heart of the story keeps spreading, and the romance has to survive the kind of fallout that would break most people. That gives the duet a heavier, more tragic feel than some of Halle’s other series.

There is also a clear music journalist angle running through it all. Dawn is not just there to fall for a bad idea in leather pants. She is ambitious, observant, and trying to make space for herself in a scene that does not especially welcome her. That helps ground the supernatural chaos in something human.

If you want polished, clean rock star fantasy, this is not that. Devils is rougher, stranger, and more horror forward. It is about talent, temptation, and what people will trade away for a shot at immortality, literal or otherwise.
