Devil's Duke Books in Order

If you like Regency romance with a dark mystery at its center, the Devil's Duke books are Katharine Ashe in full chase mode. The series grows out of the Falcon Club world, but its hook is easy to grab right away: somewhere in Scotland a feared duke is hiding a dangerous secret, and a whole crowd of determined people want to uncover it first.

The early books send different hunters after that truth. The Rogue pairs Lady Constance Read with Saint Sterling, the swordmaster who once broke her heart, and turns their uneasy alliance into a dangerous mission tied to a shadowy Scottish society. The Earl keeps the pressure on by sending the anonymous Lady Justice and Colin Gray, her longtime enemy, across Scotland in a tense, funny, hard-driving enemies-to-lovers story.

Then the series closes in. The Duke shifts the spotlight to Lady Amarantha Vale and Gabriel Hume, the reclusive man society has turned into a legend. Their book carries the emotional center of the larger arc because it asks the question hanging over everything from the start: what is Gabriel hiding, and what will it cost if the truth comes out? The Prince widens the world again, moving into Edinburgh with Libby Shaw and Ziyaeddin, an exiled prince and portraitist who sees through her disguise almost at once.

The Pirate & I is shorter, but it fits the mood perfectly. Old love, new danger, rain-soaked streets, and a hero who has changed more than the heroine expected. That is the larger feel of this whole set of books. People are rarely who society says they are.

Scotland matters here.

Castles, border roads, lecture halls, hidden rooms, and lonely stretches of Highland country all help give the series its shape. The tone is high-stakes and sensual, but not gloomy. Ashe likes smart heroines, capable heroes, and plot engines built from secrets, disguises, and divided loyalties. Even when the books get sweeping, the emotional questions stay personal: who can be trusted, what must be sacrificed, and whether love can survive the truth.

Start with The Rogue if you want the mystery to build around you from the beginning, or jump to The Duke if you mainly want the heart of the larger arc. Either way, expect connected romances that move fast and keep one eye on the Highlands and the other on the people brave enough to go looking there.
