There is court tension, family pressure, and enough danger to keep the books moving, without losing sight of the emotional core. The novella Courting Darkness broadens the world a little further, shifting attention to Tobias and Mercuree while staying rooted in the same magical setting. So the series feels both focused and expandable, a central love story with room for side paths, extra pain, and more shadows than the title first lets on.
