Days of Iron and Clay is a paranormal series built around the idea that the mortal world and the spiritual world are not separate at all. Samantha Lopez lives right on that seam. It grows out of the Alpha Girl world, but Sam's story works as its own entry point.

That dark setup could turn grim very fast, but the series keeps its heart in character. Sam is brave, tired, stubborn, and still determined to help people. Her mother is part of that fight, and the wider cast brings in the sense of chosen family that shows up across Erin's work. There is also Phoenix, a mortal who grounds Sam in a very human way. He is not there to make the supernatural less serious. He makes the stakes feel more immediate, because caring about an ordinary life becomes its own kind of risk.

The setting is contemporary, but it never stays purely ordinary. Streets, homes, churches, and everyday rooms can turn into battlegrounds the moment a possession or portal opens up. That overlap between daily life and unseen warfare gives the series its best tension. Sam is not off in some sealed fantasy kingdom. She is dealing with Hell in places that should feel safe.

And Hell stays close.

By Infestation, the arc is already getting bigger. Sam comes back from a trip to Hell carrying guilt, grief, and one more reason not to stand still. When werewolf allies ask for help with a new evil they cannot track, the series folds supernatural investigation into its demon war and keeps widening the world. The overall tone is action-heavy paranormal romance with spiritual stakes, but the series is just as interested in endurance, faith, fear, and the question of how much one person can carry before the darkness finally gets in. If you want demon fighting, emotional fallout, and a heroine who keeps stepping forward anyway, this is what the series delivers.
