Series background & context

Dark Lords of London is Jessie Donovan's time-travel vampire romance series, set mostly in late nineteenth-century London with modern heroines thrown into the middle of supernatural politics. The books mix vampires, fae witches, shifters, fated mates, and a city where old alliances are held together by rules that no one can afford to ignore.

The setup begins with Vampire's Modern Bride. Yesenia Vale is forced toward a terrible marriage in the present, then wakes in 1890s London and bloods Leopold Yates, one of the city's Dark Lords. He is powerful, controlled, and not thrilled that a woman from the future can make his heart beat again. She wants to protect her family. He needs to avoid madness. Their bargain becomes the doorway into the series.

The fated bond is not simple or soft.

Each book adds another pairing and another piece of the world. Vampire's Fae Witch Healer focuses on Nora Yates and River Vale, two hurt people whose connection is wrapped in healing and fear. Fae Witch's Vampire Guard turns to Reika Hashimoto and Stone Riley, a brighter heroine and a growly guard whose silence hides a lot. Vampires' Shared Bride brings Meadow Vale into a why-choose romance with Laurie Yates and Joseph Hope, while fae witch politics grow more dangerous.

The London setting matters because the past is not just pretty wallpaper. Social rules, supernatural hierarchy, gaming hells, family power, and old prejudice all shape what the couples can risk. Modern heroines bring different expectations with them, and the culture clash creates both comedy and trouble.

Readers who like Donovan's dragon clans will recognize the shape: a tight community, rules that can protect or trap people, and romance that forces change. Start with Vampire's Modern Bride so the time-travel magic, the Dark Lords, and the vampire curse make sense before the later couples join the story.
